Calling Ontario’s Registered Dietitians: Ontario Dietitians is a community built by dietitians, for dietitians – Build it with us from the ground up.
This key part to your child's development can be the biggest source of stress.
Mealtimes can be one of the most stressful experiences parents face day to day. With an abundance of confusing information online and unsolicited advice from others, it can be overwhelming to know how to provide your child with optimal nutrition.
Some common eating challenges:
With the right guidance, you can navigate your feeding journey from infancy through the teenage years successfully.
Refusing vegetables is incredibly common and doesn’t mean your child will never eat them! Our dietitians share practical strategies from their school nutrition resources, including creative ways to incorporate vegetables into familiar foods, making vegetables more appealing, and understanding that it can take many exposures before a child accepts a new food. We help you stay patient and persistent without turning vegetables into a power struggle.
This is one of the most common concerns parents have, and it’s understandable! The good news is that children are often more nutritionally resilient than we think. Our BC Dietitians help you assess whether your child’s growth patterns are normal and provide practical strategies for ensuring adequate nutrition even when food choices seem limited. We focus on what your child is eating rather than what they’re not, and help you identify opportunities to boost nutrition in foods they already accept.
This is completely normal toddler behavior! Most children go through phases of food selectivity, and it’s actually a natural part of their development. Our pediatric dietitians help parents understand that toddlers are learning to assert independence, and food is often where they test boundaries. We provide strategies for handling picky eating without turning mealtime into a battleground, while ensuring your child is still getting the nutrition they need to grow and thrive.
Starting solids is an exciting milestone that can also feel overwhelming for new parents. Our pediatric nutrition specialists guide you through the signs of readiness (usually around 6 months), safe introduction methods, and how to navigate potential food allergies. We provide evidence-based guidance that takes the guesswork out of this important transition, helping you feel confident about when and how to introduce your baby to new foods and textures.
